These caps are designed to be the main head of the nut, however they are thin and therefore soft and often get damage and even come off. The wheel nut head underneath these caps is not a standard hex size and can cause difficulties when changing tyres as a standard hex wheel brace will not fit.
For this reason many people want to change their Ford alloy wheel nuts. There are other things to look out for when changing the nuts though. The original Ford alloy wheel nuts have a captive washer making the overall width of the nut approx 28mm.
